Hardcoat™ Mirrors

Hardcoat™ mirrors combine the shatter resistance and impact durability of acrylic with high-quality reflectance, making them a strong alternative to traditional glass mirrors in active or safety-conscious environments.

Because acrylic mirror material is manufactured differently than glass, minor reflection variation is normal, similar to what is found in standard glass mirrors. To minimize distortion, Hardcoat™ mirrors use a proprietary lamination process, bonding the acrylic mirror to a rigid backing that eliminates up to 90% of potential surface distortion.

The result is a durable, lightweight, and impact-resistant mirror suitable for daily use and routine cleaning with standard non-abrasive cleaners.

Common Applications

Hardcoat™ mirrors are well suited for environments where safety, durability, and ease of installation are priorities, including:

  • Dance studios

  • Gyms and fitness centers

  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation facilities

  • Schools and daycares

  • Theaters and performance spaces

  • Building lobbies and public interiors

They provide a safer replacement for heavy glass mirrors while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.

What Makes Hardcoat™ Different from Standard Acrylic Mirrors

Unlike thin acrylic sheets that can flex, wobble, or create “funhouse” distortion, Hardcoat™ mirrors are bonded to a monolithic backing and secured within aluminum frames. This construction provides rigidity and flatness that far exceeds typical acrylic mirror products.

Available mounting options include:

  • Wall-mounted systems

  • Rolling floor stands

  • Stationary floor stands

  • Overhead display mounts

Many installations can be completed without professional contractors.

Technical Performance Data

Acrylic is frequently specified in applications where impact resistance and ease of handling are critical:

  • ¼″ plate glass: ~1.0 ft-lb impact resistance

  • ¼″ tempered glass: ~15–29 ft-lbs

  • ¼″ acrylic mirror: ~18.1 ft-lbs

Acrylic mirrors provide up to 18× the impact strength of regular glass while weighing roughly half as much.

Abrasion Resistance (Taber Test – % haze after 100 cycles)

  • Plate glass: 0.23%

  • Hardcoat™ mirror: 1.34%

  • Standard acrylic mirror: 26.9%

Safety & Compliance

Hardcoat™ mirrors are:

  • UL Classified (File #E54671)

  • Flammability rated 94HB

  • ANSI Z97.1 compliant for safety glazing materials used in buildings

These certifications make Hardcoat™ mirrors appropriate for architectural and institutional use where safety standards apply.
